Nestled on the campus of the Audie L. Murphy Memorial Veterans’ Hospital in San Antonio, Texas, the South Texas VA Fisher House offers a warm, welcoming, and fully equipped “home away from home” for the families of hospitalized Veterans. VA Fisher House I opened its doors in 2013 with 16 guest room available for veteran families.
With the addition of VA Fisher House II, which opened in 2024, this location can now accommodate 32 families. Each family is provided with a private guest suite featuring an en-suite bathroom, with accommodations for up to four individuals per suite.
Like other Fisher House Locations guests have access to a variety of shared amenities, including:
House Requirement
• Have a loved one receiving inpatient care provided by South Texas Veterans Health Care System.
• Live 50 miles or more away from the Audie L. Murphy Memorial Veterans Hospital.
• Are actively engaged in the hospitalized Veteran’s treatment plan and provide daily ongoing bedside support during the episode of care.
• Are medically stable and able to stay in a non-medical, unsupervised setting.
• The guest must have a permanent address.
• Are willing to abide by all house guidelines and regulations.
• Veterans are not allowed to lodge alone in the Fisher House. Veterans must be accompanied by a caregiver while lodging at the Fisher House.
