Executive Director, Fisher House Inc.
Fisher House Inc. (FHI) seeks a strategic, community-engaged leader to serve as its next Executive Director.

The ideal candidate will build on a strong foundation of service, relationships, and financial strength while guiding the organization through a comprehensive strategic planning process, strengthening FHI’s relationships with military and VA leadership and the Fisher Houses, building the next generation of donor and community relationships, and ensuring FHI’s resources are directed where they can create the greatest mission value.
Reporting Structure: The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors.

Total Staff and Budget: 2 staff members and an annual budget of $928,000.

Salary: Commensurate with experience and the salary range is $100,000 – $130,000. Benefits include medical and dental contributions, a 403(b) match, and paid time off.

Job Description

Position Summary
The Executive Director serves as the senior operational leader of Fisher House Inc. (FHI), working in close partnership with the Board of Directors. The Executive Director leads FHI’s strategy, financial stewardship, Fisher House support and advocacy, resource development, and organizational operations.

Experience and Leadership Attributes
The successful candidate will bring demonstrated experience leading people, managing finances, fostering external relationships, and driving organizational outcomes. Candidates should have a record of: strong relationships and credibility with key nonprofit stakeholders and donors; strategic execution; staff leadership and development; and sound financial judgment.

FHI values demonstrated capability over specific titles, degrees, or former military rank. Prior military service may be valuable, but the essential requirements are military cultural fluency, the ability to navigate military systems, and the ability to effectively advocate for the Fisher Houses.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Vision, Mission Stewardship, and Future Impact
● Collaborates with the Board of Directors in the strategic planning process to define priorities and opportunities for its next era.
● Translates strategy into clear priorities, measurable outcomes, and disciplined decisions about what to start, stop, strengthen, or pursue differently.
● Drives execution by aligning people, resources, and accountability around the work required to deliver results.
Military Leadership, Relationships, and Advocacy
● Builds trusted relationships with military commanders and senior leaders, installation and medical leadership, VA leadership, House Managers, and others whose decisions affect the organizations that FHI supports.

House Partnership, Forward Planning, and Mission Support
● Leads FHI and House Managers in a forward-looking approach to House needs, including understanding the long-term support obligations that may exist.
● Strengthen communication among FHI, House Managers, and military and VA partners so responsibilities are clear and issues can be addressed.
External Leadership, Fundraising, and Community Engagement
● Serve as FHI’s lead ambassador, and in doing so build and deepen strategic partnerships with donors, corporate and foundation partners, community leaders, military and veteran organizations, healthcare partners, Fisher House Foundation, and other key stakeholders.
● Strengthen FHI’s communications and visibility through its established newsletter and an evolving mix of digital, social, media, and community engagement that keeps supporters connected to the mission and reaches new audiences.

Organizational Leadership, Talent Development, and Capacity
● Set clear priorities, expectations, decision rights, and accountability while developing a capable, confident staff.
● Distribute appropriate decisions, knowledge, and relationships to build organizational capacity and reduce dependence on any one individual.
● Cultivate a culture of service, respect, teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Financial Stewardship, Operations, and Board Partnership
● Maintain a high-trust, high-accountability partnership with the Board, providing candid information, sound recommendations, and clear executive accountability for organizational performance.
● Protect FHI’s financial strength through disciplined budgeting, financial oversight, and risk management.
● Connect House needs, strategic priorities, and financial planning to direct FHI’s resources where they can create the greatest mission value and measurable impact.

Reporting Relationship
The Executive Director reports to the Fisher House Inc. Board of Directors and works in close partnership with the Board President.

Location
The position is based in San Antonio, Texas, and requires a visible presence with the Fisher Houses, military installations, donors, partners, and broader community FHI serves.

Compensation and Benefits
